Ripple Expands Institutional Push With OCC Bank Approval and BNY, Robinhood Partnerships

Ripple used the opening of Swell 2026 to announce expanded partnerships and a new treasury product. CryptoPotato also reported that the OCC had given final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank to open. The announcements signal a push into institutional finance, but approval and partnership plans do not mean services are live or results are proven.

  • Ripple said its Robinhood partnership will expand, but has not disclosed specific integrations.
  • BNY’s reported support for XRP and RLUSD custody is separate from exploratory trade-finance work on the XRP Ledger.
  • OCC approval does not show that Ripple National Trust Bank is already operating.

OCC approval marks a step, not an opening

CryptoPotato reported that the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) gave final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank to open, after granting conditional approval in December 2025. The report says the proposed bank is expected to manage segregated reserves backing RLUSD and offer institutional digital-asset custody.

A national trust bank focuses on trust and fiduciary services, including custody. Regulatory approval to open does not mean the institution has started serving customers, or that it will operate like a conventional retail bank.

Ripple had not announced an opening date in the details reported by CryptoPotato, which did not include the OCC’s approval order or its conditions. The milestone may matter to Ripple’s institutional ambitions, but the bank’s practical scope will depend on the authorization and when it begins operating.

Partnerships with Robinhood and BNY

Ripple described an expanded partnership with Robinhood, saying its financial infrastructure would be integrated into customer-facing services and core financial operations. The companies have not specified which products or internal systems will use Ripple’s infrastructure, or when those integrations will roll out.

CryptoPotato also reported that RLUSD was available on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood, with a rollout to Robinhood’s main app expected later in the year. That is an expected timeline, not confirmation of a completed launch. Check Robinhood’s current product information for availability.

Ripple also announced an expanded relationship with BNY. CryptoPotato reported that BNY’s institutional digital-asset custody platform supports XRP and RLUSD. Institutional custody means safeguarding digital assets for organizations, rather than individuals keeping assets in personal wallets.

Separately, Ripple and BNY plan to explore tokenized trade finance on the XRP Ledger, or XRPL. The word “explore” matters. The announcement does not establish that a trade-finance product is live, or give its terms, launch date or transaction volume. Tokenized trade finance generally uses digital tokens or blockchain-based records to represent or manage claims tied to commercial trade. Details of any proposed XRPL system have not been disclosed.

What is known about 24/7 Returns?

Ripple announced 24/7 Returns through Ripple Treasury. CryptoPotato described it as a way for eligible businesses to put idle cash to work outside conventional banking hours, potentially using qualifying digital assets such as RLUSD.

The basic mechanics remain unclear. Ripple has not specified in the reported details what generates the returns, whether principal can lose value, how withdrawals work, what fees apply or which businesses qualify. The product’s name does not guarantee a yield.

Bessent’s appearance and Ripple’s policy message

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent appeared by video and spoke with Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse. Garlinghouse praised Bessent and the administration’s approach to crypto policy, saying:

“His leadership, alongside the current administration, has been instrumental in ensuring that responsible crypto can thrive in the US.”

That is Garlinghouse’s view, not independent evidence of Bessent’s role in shaping specific rules or of the administration’s broader regulatory record. A senior Treasury official’s appearance signals engagement with the industry, but it does not settle outstanding regulatory questions.

A tenth edition, not ten full years

Swell began in Toronto in October 2017 and was billed as its tenth edition in 2026. If 2017 counts as the first edition, 2026 is the tenth. But by October 2026, nine years had passed since the launch month, not ten.

CryptoPotato reported that the conference ran in New York from October 27 to 29, with the main program beginning October 28. Garlinghouse called the opening day “day 0, ” writing: “And it's only day 0 (technically the Swell main event starts tomorrow!).”

Together, the announcements show Ripple targeting institutional custody, treasury services, payments infrastructure and potential tokenized finance. These are substantive areas of business, but execution will be the test: which services go live, on what terms, and whether institutions use them.
